How we handle personal information
This notice explains the personal information used for National Pension Week activities, why it is needed, how it is protected and the choices available to you.
National Pension Week and this notice
National Pension Week 2026 is a public-engagement and pension-literacy platform led by the National Pension Commission (PenCom). Where an approved event partner has a defined role in handling personal data, that role will be communicated where required.
2 · What this notice covers
This notice applies when you register for an event, join online or request event updates, enter a youth competition, apply for the SME Fair, request media accreditation, contact National Pension Week, request accessibility assistance, appear in approved event photography or video, or use the NPW website and digital services.
3 · Personal data we may collect
The information needed depends on your interaction. It may include your name, email address, phone number, state or location, organisation, employer, school or institution, participant type and event selections.
Competition administration may also require student, class or level information, verification evidence, parent or guardian contact and consent information for minors, competition submissions and judging records. SME applications may require business information, and media accreditation may require professional or organisation details.
Where you volunteer accessibility information, it is used to support the accommodation requested. Approved event photography, video or audio may also be processed. Technical information may include IP address, browser or device information, security logs and consented analytics data.
General NPW registration and support should not request your RSA PIN, bank information, NIN or other unnecessary pension-account identifiers.
4 · Why we use personal data
Personal data may be used to register and accredit participants, manage capacity, send requested event communications, administer competitions and verify eligibility, process SME applications, manage media accreditation, provide support and accessibility accommodations, maintain security, prevent abuse or fraud, publish authorised winner or event content, measure service performance using privacy-conscious analytics, respond to enquiries and maintain appropriate administrative records.
5 · Lawful basis
Personal data is processed only where there is a lawful basis under applicable Nigerian data-protection law. Depending on the activity, this may include consent, delivery of an event or competition arrangement, legal obligation, public interest or official functions, or another lawful basis recognised by the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
6 · Children and young people
National Pension Week minimises the personal information collected from children and young people. Where consent is the applicable basis for a participant under 18, parent or guardian consent must be obtained and appropriately verified before the relevant processing takes place. Verification documents must be protected with enhanced access controls.
7 · Who data may be shared with
Information is shared only as necessary for the stated purpose. Recipients may include authorised PenCom or NPW administrators, approved registration and technology providers, competition judges and administrators using minimised or blind data where possible, venue and accreditation providers, authorised messaging or email providers, livestream and media service providers, approved event partners with a defined role, and public authorities where disclosure is required by law.
Service providers are expected to operate under appropriate confidentiality, security and data-processing obligations.
8 · International transfers
Some approved technology providers may process information outside Nigeria. Where that occurs, required safeguards under applicable Nigerian data-protection law must be applied.
9 · Event photography and recording
NPW activities may be photographed, filmed or livestreamed for news, reporting, public communication and archival purposes. Appropriate notices should be provided at physical venues. Separate consent is used where required, particularly for featured content involving minors.
10 · How long information is kept
Personal information is kept only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including event administration, competition resolution, security, legal, financial and audit requirements. Verification documents relating to minors should be removed promptly after the relevant verification, prize and appeal processes are complete unless a lawful reason requires longer retention.
11 · Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you may have rights including access, correction, objection, restriction, deletion or erasure, data portability, withdrawal of consent where consent is relied on, and the right to complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
12 · Security
National Pension Week services should use safeguards appropriate to the risk, including encryption in transit, secure administrator authentication, access controls, least-privilege permissions, logging, secure backups, controlled file uploads and incident-response procedures.
13 · Cookies and analytics
Essential technologies may be used for security, sessions and core functionality. Non-essential analytics or similar technologies remain off until the required consent choice has been made. See the Cookie Notice.
14 · Privacy questions and requests
Use the Contact page and select Privacy / Data Request. Do not send sensitive pension-account credentials through a general enquiry.
15 · Complaints to the regulator
You may have the right to lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) about the handling of your personal data.
16 · Changes to this notice
Material changes to this notice will be reflected on this page and, where appropriate, highlighted elsewhere on the National Pension Week platform.
